National Junior Honor Society
Dillard Drive Middle School

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginnings in 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the National Honor Society (for high school students) and NJHS. More than 7250 NJHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia , Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada . The Dillard Drive Middle School chapter currently has 71 eighth grade members. Seventh grade students will be selected and inducted into the chapter later this year as well.

Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service. Each member of the NJHS at Dillard Drive Middle is expected to complete a minimum of 10 hours of community service each semester, four of which must be completed at school and two of which must be completed outside of school. In addition to self-selected activities, a number of club activities are planned this year that will provide opportunities for members to meet the service requirement. Mrs. Leigh Owens and Dr. Jim Brooks are co-sponsors of the Dillard Drive Chapter of NJHS.
